Farmers have a unique opportunity to support the Catholic Community Foundation for Eastern South Dakota (CCFESD) by donating grain. By giving through this method, you can make a meaningful impact while also receiving certain tax advantages. Here’s how it works:
- Notify Us of Your Intent
Before delivering your grain, contact CCFESD to inform us of the elevator where you’ll be delivering. This helps us ensure that we have an account set up with the elevator to facilitate the transfer. - Complete the Crop Commodity Transfer Form
Fill out the Crop Commodity Transfer Form, which is essential for the donation process. - Deliver the Grain to the Elevator
Bring your completed form along with the grain to your selected elevator. The grain will be transferred as a gift to CCFESD. - Request a Settlement Report
When delivering the grain, ask for a settlement report from the elevator. This report must show that CCFESD is the owner of the grain. - Receive a Donation Receipt
After the grain has been sold, CCFESD will send you a donation receipt. It’s important to note that this donation is not tax-deductible, but you will not need to declare the value of the donated grain as income in your farming operation.
Once the grain is donated, the elevator will sell it at the spot closing price on the day of delivery, with the proceeds going directly to CCFESD. This generous contribution supports the mission of faith formation for college students and other important initiatives.
If you have any questions or would like to begin the process, please reach out to us and we’ll be happy to guide you every step of the way!
