Christmas at the Cathedral benefits the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, as well as the ongoing care of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, one of the region’s most significant civic and sacred landmarks. This beloved Christmas tradition is one you don’t want to miss!

We’re excited to share this year’s theme:

“Surrender”

For three decades, Christmas at the Cathedral has invited audiences to encounter the mystery of God’s Incarnation through music, storytelling, and the unique architecture of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

This year, we celebrate this milestone by exploring the theme of “Surrender”—the radical trust that made Christmas possible.

Through the eyes of St. Luke, the physician-turned-evangelist who interviewed eyewitnesses to compile his Gospel, we discover that the Christmas story is not just about a baby born in Bethlehem. It’s about a God who surrendered His throne for a humble manger. It’s about Mary’s “yes,” Joseph’s trust, and the invitation extended to each of us: to open our hands, release our plans, and trust that God’s plan is better than our own.

General Volunteer and/or Cookie Donation | Wednesday Evening

Each year, we invite guests of the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, St. Francis House, The Banquet, and other honored community guests to join us for a special Christmas celebration. Guests will be treated to dinner, followed by a viewing of this year’s Christmas at the Cathedral performance. The evening will conclude with a cookie and hot cocoa reception. To make this possible, we need volunteers to help run this event and to donate 100 dozen cookies (please no bars).

Cookie drop off:

- Please deliver in a disposable container to the Chancery building, 523 N. Duluth Ave, Sioux Falls (please ring bell to enter).

Snow Shoveling | Wednesday-Sunday Evenings

Assistance shoveling snow and laying salt/sand at Cathedral entrances prior to the show, should the need arise.
