21st Annual Gift of Hope Event

ABOUT THE EVENT

Please join us for our upcoming Gift of Hope fundraising event, benefitting Catholic Family Services, on Saturday April 10th on Duluth Avenue in front of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.  This will be an outdoor candlelight vigil, “Lighting the Path to Hope and Healing”, bringing people together to hear inspirational messages from Bishop Donald DeGrood and CFS Exec Director Emily Leedom, along with beautiful praise and worship music from Jon Konz. A moment of remembrance will take place to honor long-time CFS Director, Dr Marcie Moran, who passed away January 21st.  

Gift of Hope candles and luminaries will be pre-sold and ceremonially lit during this event. Proceeds from these sales benefit the Gift of Hope Endowment Fund. Through this fund, CFS is able to offer programs that support human flourishing in times of grief, uncertainty or transition. Your participation supports: Camp Sydney (a youth grief camp), support groups for separated & divorced, grief support groups, counseling for high school students and teachers, pornography education & prevention, healing retreats, natural family planning and so much more! 

These candles and luminaries can be personalized to remember or honor individuals or any specific prayer intention you may have. The light of a candle is a powerful symbol for us. It signifies God’s presence and beckons us to remain present with Him.  Christ tells us, “I have come to the world as its light, to keep anyone who believes in me from remaining in the dark”  John 12:46

ABOUT THE BENEFICIARY

CATHOLIC FAMILY SERVICES

Catholic Family Services was established in 1961 by the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls.  Over the past 60 years, their programs have evolved to meet the ever changing needs of the people they serve.

Focus today centers around three primary missions:  Counseling, Grief and Loss, and Wellness Education.

All proceeds from sponsorships and sale of candles and luminaries will benefit the Gift of Hope Fund. Through this fund, CFS is able to offer programs that support human flourishing in times of grief, uncertainty or transition. Following the event, you can take these home with you and light in your homes as you pray for your intentions.  The light of a candle is a powerful symbol for us. FAQs

WHAT IS THE START TIME FOR THIS EVENT?

We are asking individuals to arrive around 8:00 p.m. to pick up their pre-ordered candles. Live Music will begin at approximately 8:05 and the speakers will begin at 8:15 p.m. 

WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?

If we experience inclement weather, our plan is to move the entire event inside the Cathedral.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ATTENDING THIS EVENT?

As this is our first year presenting this event, we are uncertain at this time.  Holding it outdoors will allow for social distancing.

WHERE SPECIFICALLY IS THIS EVENT BEING HELD?

The event will begin outdoors (weather permitting) in front of the Cathedral of St Joseph.  We have permission to block off Duluth Avenue to allow attendees to spread out onto the street, to allow for social distancing.

ARE MASKS REQUIRED?

As this is an outdoor event, where social distancing is available, masks will not be mandatory, however they are encouraged.

DO I HAVE TO PRE-ORDER MY CANDLES OR CAN I PURCHASE THEM AT THE EVENT?

To ensure we have adequate supply of candles for everyone, we encourage you to pre-order them.  We will have a limited supply available at the event.

WHEN, WHERE & HOW DO I PICK UP MY CANDLES?

We encourage you to pre-order your candles. They can be ordered on-line or by calling our office at 605-988-3765.  Once ordered, you can pick up your candles in advance at our office located at 523 N Duluth (just north of the Cathedral) – or – you can pick them up at the event.  We will have a designated tent for candle pick-up.  To ensure we have an adequate supply of candles, we ask that you please order by April 7th if possible.

WHERE DO I GET THE LUMINARY BAGS TO DECORATE?

These are available to pick up at the Catholic Community Foundation office.  They need to be returned by April 5th.

HOW LONG WILL THIS EVENT LAST?

We plan to begin the program at 8:15 p.m. (As we need to desire to wait to light the candles until it is dark.) The program will run no longer than 45 minutes. An optional, simple reception will follow.

WILL THERE BE ANY HANDICAPPED ACCOMMODATIONS PROVIDED?

We will be providing chairs for anyone who is unable to stand throughout the duration of this event.  If other accommodations are requested, please call us at 605-988-3765.

IS THIS STRICTLY A CATHOLIC EVENT? ARE NON-CATHOLICS INVITED?

Like the services offered by Catholic Family Services, this event is open to EVERYONE regardless of faith beliefs.  ALL ARE WELCOME!
