About This Event
Where else will you find your Bishop trading in his traditional black clerics and donning blaze orange, other than the annual Bishop’s Charity Hunt benefitting Newman Catholic Campus Ministry in our diocese? This fully catered event was established in 1995 and today is held in the heart of pheasant country on a private preserve near Kimball, SD.
Event Includes:
- Guided hunt with transportation
- Dinners: Sunday (pork loin) & Monday (prime rib)
- Breakfasts: Monday & Tuesday
- Social on Sunday & Monday with open bar and unlimited heavy appetizers
- One (1) night lodging
- Trap shoot
- Lunch in the field
- Bird cleaning
- Mass with Bishop DeGrood
- Memories of a lifetime

About Newman Catholic Campus Ministry
Nearly 80% of Catholics leave the faith do so between the ages of 18-24. The decisions made during their university years will impact the rest of one’s life. Strong Catholic Campus Ministry forms the leaders of tomorrow in society and our Church – from strong husbands and wives to priests and religious vocations.
What’s going on at all Newman Centers across our diocese?
- Average of 130 students attending daily Mass
- More than 700 students attending Sunday Mass
- More than 90 weekly Bible studies held on campus with approximately 425 students attending
- Over the past 5 years, 17 men have entered seminary, and 6 women have entered religious life
- Services Newman Centers/clubs provide: daily Mass and Confession, Bible studies, retreat opportunities, service projects, mission trips, marriage prep, RCIA and counseling services
