CATHEDRAL INSPIRES CAMPAIGN
Continuing the Restoration of the Cathedral of St. Joseph

All are welcome to the Cathedral of St. Joseph as a place to pray and celebrate. It is more than just a place for Catholics; it is a cherished symbol and a landmark for the region. The beauty of art, architecture, and music come together in an inspiring way in the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Through the generosity of many, the Cathedral has been undergoing a comprehensive restoration, including the main worship space completed in 2011. The next phase, called the “Inspires Campaign,” will provide a world-class organ, restored rectory, and endowments that will fund expanded programs for music and liturgy lifting our hearts, souls and minds to experience the presence of God.
Music & Liturgy
Sacred music and liturgy (re)presents the Heavenly Jerusalem and is at the heart of Catholic worship. Through her music and Liturgy, the Cathedral of St Joseph, the Mother Church of the Diocese of Sioux Falls, provides leadership, training and inspiration for growing the faith communities within eastern South Dakota and beyond. The Cathedral InSpires a love for sacred music and Liturgy and will establish a children’s choir to raise our minds and hearts to praise God for generations to come.
A WORLD-CLASS ORGAN
Music is the highest form of sacred art. Completing the artistic and liturgical restoration of the Cathedral demands an organ worthy of singing praise. The existing organ is at 50% playing capacity and beyond repair. A new organ is expected to last for 500 years – and beyond. We owe it to those who went before us, sacrificing to build the Cathedral of St Joseph, to ensure the Cathedral InSpires current and future generations.
A Rectory Worthy of the Cathedral
Restoring a home for happy, holy, healthy, and hard working priests to serve the Cathedral and welcome the many guests who visit it. The leaking roof and antiquated electrical, plumbing, and HVAC make the rectory unlivable. Everything except the limestone exterior and new windows need to be replaced to provide a suitable place for retreat, reflection and fraternity for priests and Cathedral guests.
We owe it to those who went before us, sacrificing to build the Cathedral of St Joseph, to ensure the Cathedral InSpires current and future generations.
