We’re excited to announce two important appointments that will strengthen our ability to serve the Catholic community across Eastern South Dakota: Kendra Hunhoff joins us as Gift Planning Officer for the Yankton Area, and Areli Cortes has been promoted to Director of Special Events.
Kendra Hunhoff: Gift Planning Officer, Yankton
Kendra brings her experience to our gift planning efforts, working directly with donors to support the causes they care about most. In this role, she helps individuals and families explore charitable giving options and make thoughtful, well-informed decisions that reflect their values and intentions.
Kendra will also serve as Director of the Yankton Catholic Community Foundation, where she will focus on building and strengthening relationships across the community in support of the Foundation’s mission. As a Yankton native, she is well positioned to help foster “a future full of hope” for the community.
Areli Cortes: Director of Events
Areli’s promotion to Director of Special Events recognizes both her proven capabilities and her deep understanding of our mission. Since joining our team as an Events Specialist in October 2024, she has demonstrated exceptional organizational skills, creative vision, and a commitment to creating experiences that not only bring together our community, but have the greatest impact for our beneficiaries.
As Director of Special Events, Areli will oversee the planning and execution of all Bishop’s Charity Events. Her firsthand experience with our operations positions her perfectly to lead this vital area of our work.

These appointments come as we prepare for transitions within our team. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Jan Feterl, whose leadership in Events and Marketing has been invaluable, as she looks toward retirement in the near future. We also thank Anthony Jablonoski for his dedicated service as he prepares to pursue an exciting new chapter with his family. Their contributions have made an incredible impact on the Catholic Community Foundation and in the lives of our donors and beneficiaries, and we wish them every success in their next endeavors!
