A Guide to 2025 Year-End Giving

Thanks to your generosity, the Catholic Community Foundation for Eastern South Dakota (CCFESD) granted $11,843,405 to 471 donor-designated charities and ministries in fiscal year 2025. We are truly overwhelmed by the extraordinary generosity of the faithful who make up the Church in eastern South Dakota!

As we head into the holiday season and you consider your year-end charitable giving, please note that the last business day of 2025 is Wednesday, December 31^st.

Below are key details and deadlines to keep in mind for year-end giving:

Stock/Mutual Fund Gift Reminder

With strong stock market performance in 2025, you may hold shares that have appreciated in value. Always consult with your tax professional first, but gifting shares to CCFESD and directing them to the ministry or charity of your choice may avoid capital gains taxes and at the same time you receive a charitable deduction.

CCFESD Stock and Mutual Fund Transfer Instructions

IRA Charitable Rollovers

To ensure distribution to your designated ministries or charities before year-end, CCFESD must receive the funds from your plan administrator by Monday, December 15th.

Grant Reminders

• Minimum grant amount: $100
• Per IRS rules, you cannot make a grant for a membership, to fulfill a pledge, to attend a charity event or to pay tuition for an individual.
• CCFESD screens all grantees for tax status, allowable purpose, financial health, accountability/transparency and alignment with Catholic social teaching.

Key Year-End Dates

Monday, December 15^th

• Donor-Advised Fund Grants: Submit grant recommendations before noon to ensure grants are sent before year-end.
• Appreciated Stock Gifts: Initiate stock and mutual fund transfers by this date to ensure they are received in CCFESD’s account before year-end. (Please check with your initiating firm for their cutoff dates, which may be earlier than December 15th).

Wednesday, December 31^st – LAST BUSINESS DAY OF 2025

• Cash Gifts: CCFESD must receive cash gifts at our office by this date. If you plan to deliver a gift in-person, please call us at 605-988-3788 to confirm details.
• Mailing Checks: Contributions sent by mail must be dated and postmarked by the USPS no later than December 31st.

• Thanksgiving Break – Thursday, November 27^th
• Thanksgiving Break – Friday, November 28^th
• Feast of the Immaculate Conception – Monday, December 8th
• Christmas Eve – Wednesday, December 24^th
• Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25^th
• New Years Day – Thursday, January 1^st
